A couple weeks ago, Emily, some friends and myself packed into a house for the weekend at Nantasket beach in Hull, MA. I love beaches in the off-season. The beaches are pretty much empty and the only wanderers in the town are locals. The weather is gentle and except for the occasional seagull they’re completely silent. With all of these details combined, it suits the constantly-on-the-edge-of-burnout graduate student quite well and so I took my opportunity to soak up the relaxation.

What I loved about this beach town in particular is that it embodies what our grandparents must picture when they think of the 50′s. It’s a Norman Rockwell painting you can walk through. There’s a centrally-located baseball field, an old-style firehouse, a quaint post office, flags everywhere and toys in the lawn. Love it.

March Wedding #2

Antonio and Claudia are having a traditional wedding out of the country next year, but had a small ceremony here in Boston in March. They were an absolute joy to spend the evening with. Words cannot describe how adorable and in love these two are, so, I will just leave you with a few pictures :) Congrats Antonio and Claudia!

Some time ago, St. Patrick’s day occurred.

It was indeed quite an eventful day, which started out with a mild fever. This was a bit disconcerting, but I figured a couple Tylenol® would remedy the situation and headed out with Emily to the Southie 5K. The weather was perfect for a run; Nice sunshine, gentle breeze, temp. around 60. Suddenly I felt great and assumed that the run managed to kick in my immune system and roundhouse kick the virus out of me. So, after the run we meandered over to the St. Patrick’s day parade, got some pizza and watched. The parade was unique in that it had a disproportionate number of bagpipes and Star Wars references compared to other parades I’ve been to. Though, I haven’t been to a parade since I was about 5, so maybe things have evolved. Lastly, we did as the Irish do and headed over to a pub in the mid afternoon. It was here that I was reminded that I did not actually have the ability to roundhouse kick a virus. I now had a rockin’ headcold and carried my delightful 103° fever through the following day.

Matt and Amy’s wedding in early March was beautiful. It was so much fun getting to shoot this wonderful couple at their elegant ceremony and reception at Boston’s Mistral.

Filmadventures in Vermont

Mike and I spent a weekend in West Dover, VT. We enjoyed some awesome fireplace-blanket-and-book weather, took a few snow hikes (which was our only real snow experience this winter since Boston deprived us of any real weather) and I took the weekend to do some more fm2 learning. All of these are taken with the Nikon fm2n, Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens, and Kodak Gold 200.

These throw-away shots at the beginning of the roll are quite possibly my favorite part of getting film back…

Mike’s been busy and is working long hours. I don’t cook during the week. To alleviate the problem that this presents, we spent the day cooking comfort food for the week :)

1) green smoothies for the week (Spinach, Banana, Pineapple, Orange, blueberry)

2) mujadra (lentils, brown rice, caramelized onions)

3) vegetable fried rice

4) yellow rice and chicken (thanks for the recipe Mayra!) – the one non-vegetarian dish :-p

5) red beans and potatoes

On my flight to China over the summer, I barely slept at all. I spent most of my time looking out the window and watching the map on the seatback screen with our location. At one point during this time awake, I observed an incredible lake. I loved its extremely contorted shoreline, the super blue color and the complete lack of any evidence of human involvement. I wanted to parachute out right there and explore. Anyway, since then, I’ve been fixated on the idea of finding out where that lake actually is in hopes that I’ll have some random opportunity in my life to see it. Well, today, bored at work waiting on some stuff, I popped open google earth and voila!
